1945\u5e74, \u7279\u5a01\u767b\u51fa\u751f\u4e8e\u65b0\u897f\u5170\u5965\u514b\u5170\uff0c\u662f\u4e00\u4f4d\u4e13\u4e1a\u7684\u52a8\u7269\u548c\u690d\u7269\u4e3b\u9898\u753b\u5bb6\uff0c\u4e3b\u8981\u662f\u9e1f\u7c7b\uff0c\u786c\u7eb8\u677f\u6cb9\u753b\uff0c\u91d1\u53f6\uff0c\u5de5\u7b14\u753b\u548c\u6c34\u5f69\u753b\u3002\u7279\u5a01\u767b\u603b\u662f\u5bf9\u81ea\u7136\u754c\u7684\u4e00\u5207\u4e8b\u7269\u5f02\u5e38\u611f\u5174\u8da3\u3002<\/p>\n

Introduction into Blake Twigden<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1945, Blake Twigden is a specialist painter of zoological and botanical subjects primarily birdlife, in oils on hardboard and in gold leaf, pen and watercolor.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Blake was always unusually interested in all things of the natural world. From the age of 6 he has reflected his love for nature through his paintings. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

When he left for Australia in 1966 he marveled at the new plants, animals, birds and insects of this new country. His first one man Exhibition in 1971 titled \u201cConsider our Heritage\u201d displayed paintings relating to the human effect on our planet. Generous publicity resulted and the show was very successful.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He then explored the stunning wildlife in Papua New Guinea. Seven trips there resulted in Exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, London and Auckland. He became renowned for his paintings of Birds of Paradise on 24 ct Gold Leaf. Since 1972 he has published eight limited edition books on birds, fishes, the Australian Parrot series for the Australian Museum, and the 1976 Papua New Guinea stamp series.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In all Blake visited 43 countries, concentrating on painting the world’s most beautiful birds, fishes and plants.  <\/span>His work was published in two books, \u201cPisces Tropicana\u201d which featured the world’s beautiful coral fishes, and \u201cThe Fifty Rarest Birds of the World\u201d. During the following years his work has been purchased by collectors all over the world as he captured the beauty of nature well before television brought it to the world\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n

Major commissions and purchases include those from the Duke of Edinburgh, the Toyodas of Toyota, The Australian Museum, the King of Tonga, Qantas and Air New Zealand. Other sales have included Dennis Conner of the America\u2019s Cup fame and five works to one of America\u2019s richest and well known families. His work is exhibited in Auckland Art Gallery Toi o T\u0101maki, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, galleries in Australia and overseas collections.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

After 22 years based in Sydney, Twigden returned to Auckland in 1988 where he has enjoyed rediscovering his homeland and his natural heritage through creating the Whitford Bird Garden. For twenty-five years the Whitford Bird Garden was open to the public and was an award winning local business. He moved to Nelson in 2013 on selling the property to Wayne Huang (inaugural Howick Local Board member of Auckland Council). Blake now spends most of his time maintaining his unique property and makes ceramics for the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary which was developed to protect and preserve the native species of New Zealand.<\/p>\n

In November 2020 the Blake Twigden Learning Centre was established to share his vision and ensure his legacy is continued for future generations to enjoy.<\/p>\n
